Today I will write keyword Optimization Strategy for Google Play and Apple app store. In the part 1 I had wrote about the best keyword research tools for finding relevant keywords and how to find relevant keywords. And in the part 2 I had wrote about keyword selection process for target audience.

After reading these part 1 and part 2 posts now you should focus on keyword optimization. In this post I will write how to optimize keywords for app store?

Google Play and iOS App Store Keyword Optimization

Keyword optimization(keyword research) as being the main part of ASO. Without proper keywords, nothing else works. After you choose your app keywords based on the part 1 and part 2 posts(mentioned above), these two posts tips are quite enough going to be win in terms of keyword optimization. Now you should follow some basic rules, here are these-

Google Play Store

1. Google Play title limit 30 characters and you may put one or two keywords into app title, so use it wisely.

2. Google Play allow put the app name on the app icon and use the keywords on the app title.

3. Google Play has description field and it’s description limit is 4000 characters. Where you can use your keywords in 5 times and the description is all you have, like web SEO you do the same made your content towards your keywords, avoid spammy.

4. Don’t use irrelevant and repetitive keywords.

5. App description can be changed anytime, so update description with new keywords.

6. Google Play has description field and there is no keyword field. Google Play take keywords from app description field.

iOS App Store

1. iOS title limit 255 characters but it will be truncated depending on the character width. So, 12 characters are perfect for various devices. Keep it short but descriptive.

2. Automatically the app category will be added to the keyword list.

3. The keyword field of iOS is 100 characters including spaces and commas, make sure to maximize this.

4. Use single words or multi-word phrases but separate multiple keywords with commas.

5. Don’t use repeat keywords in the app title.

6. iOS has a keywords field and iOS doesn’t take the description into account.

7. Use many keywords as possible but avoid overly used ones.

8. Add more descriptive keywords to your app title, these keywords helps to improve your app search visibility, ranking high in the app search result and help people to what they searched for.

9. iTunes App Store ranking algorithm take keywords from your app keyword list which contain 100 characters. Use this keyword list very very wisely.

Keep Optimizing Your Keywords

As you have seen all of your keywords rank in the top 10. Now, is your job done, you need not work anymore? No, you need to do work, your job doesn’t stop there. You need to continue monitor on keyword performance to see which keyword works better and which is fall down. Remove keywords that are not ranking top 10 and replace them with relevant keywords on your list that look good. Keep monitoring and find out what works and what doesn’t for better keyword optimization.
